Although Dance is my very first passion, I do have a mini obsession with fashion and its latest trends (as most girls do). I frequently subscribe to fashion email lists such as Vancouver's own Style Spy, American Apparel, Free People and Urban Outfitters to get what these fantastic stores have to offer this season. Today in my email inbox, I found something quite appealing to those that love fashion and those that love dance!

Urban Outfitters, new store location on Granville Street in Vancouver BC, is welcoming the Jazz Age! Lately on the fashion trend scene, we have been seeing a lot of 80s inspired dance fashions - a la Flashdance and Footloose. As this trend has faded away, the ballet flat trend took over with much vigor. Proving to be a lasting classic style instead of a seasonal trend, the ballet flat can be work with flowing skirts, skinny jeans, leggings and much much more! I find that wearing ballet flats with a flowing skirt and calf length tights underneath really give a ballerina/dancer look that the is quite authentic yet still in line with the fashion trends and styles of today.

Dance is inescapable in today's fashion and trendy world. One could even argue that dance is a fashion statement in itself. If you dance and depending on what kind of dance you do, an outsider can tell by what you are wearing and how you hold yourself. For example, years and years ago when I was a prima ballerina, everyone knew that I danced ballet due to my everyday look of tidy and neat ponytails, clean tops and cardigans paired with a pair of neatly tailored pants. Now that I ballroom dance, in various Latin and Classical styles, I must dress the part! There is no way that I will dance the waltz in something that I would wear to do a steamy salsa routine!
